Writerly Ways
Jul. 24th, 2011 09:55 pmI'll be honest I gave some thought to writing something here today but I'm too worried about my arm and my brother to think clearly so I'll just keep this short.
In case you didn't see it the totally hot cover for Cross Bones is up on
jana_denardo. Buying info and the possibility of review copies to follow.
Timewasters. I could talk a moment about those. Right now they're killing me. One of my biggest time waster is the day job, you know the thing that gives me 99% of my disposable income so I have to give it its due.
Facebook/twitter and other online bullcrap. I know I'm wasting time. I know I need to turn it off and I find myself addicted. I need to work on that in the worst way.
And even though I said I WOULDN'T repeat rushing at the deadline I'm right there again with Temple et al's latest exploits and I have shit all to start camp nano with. go me.

weight off week 29 and other ramblings
Jul. 24th, 2011 10:43 pmsince I'm in a poor frame of mind and don't want to a million posts anyhow.
I'm on that plateau still. sigh. No recipes but how about some health stuff I found. Eat almonds. But they have fat and calories you say. Well true. In fact an ounce has @ 100-200 calories depending BUT the fat is a good fat. Study after study is showing that it helps to lower not only blood pressure but also bad cholesterol BETTER than the statins (i.e. lipitor) without the side effects. In a study in Spain with over 9000 subjects (which makes it pretty robust) almonds helped people either not gain weight or actually lose it. So eat that handful of almonds daily. (note - it probably doesn't work so well with those delicious toffee coated ones, just saying.
I spoke to my brother for the last time before he goes into surgery on tuesday. He's trying not to cry so then of course I'm trying not to cry. We're trying to focus (and get him to as well) on the things the removal of his colon will get him vs what he'll lose. 1 - no more pain (the pain has taken his blood pressure up to stroke/heart attack range more than once) 2 - being able to leave his damn house. He hasn't had a vacation in the last three years. He wanted to come here for the Mothman festival but can't even drive that far since there aren't enough reliable rest stops 3 - be able to pick up weight and get to eat more things. I told him all of you were thinking about him which made him feel better. HIs friend, an international pilot is bringing him back holy water from Paris which made me smile that he has a friend who thinks that much of him to use his Parisian stop over to go pray and bring that back (regardless of what I think of organized religion my brother is very Christian).
All I've done all day is work on lectures but I did step into the headquarters of ultimate evil (i.e. Walmart) to get some miracle gro since Big Lots didn't have it. Picked up a bucket of Peppermint and one of oregano and frankly now that I think about the price wasn't THAT reduced. But once again my credit card didn't work at wal-mart. I thought well maybe they moved up the pay date and I'm late. I just paid tonight. They hadn't so now i have to call them. sigh. it's probably wal-mart's fault. this will be the third time at that wal-mart.
( Day 287 yet another 2 fer because these belong together )
