Long Day was LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG
Aug. 17th, 2012 10:10 pmFirst off, I haven't had to get up this early since April. I'm such a morning person. (die morning die). The meeting today went from 8-4pm. Whee. Actually, though, for the second year in a row, it wasn't so bad. We're the ONLY community college (my college is a freak the first 2 years and all our associate degrees are community college and the second 2 years for the BS/BA is university) in OH to go up in enrollment. OH is down 11% in high school graduates and nearly first in drop outs (go Ohio). So that is good news.
In less good news, we have those remedial math and english classes I mentioned right? the ones that are @ 9th grade level? Yeah upwards of 20% of all students who try to come here test BELOW that so we have a new program that is going to target those students and try to get them college ready (so who volunteers for this very active task force? oh someone up for promotion, shoot me).
I missed the 2 1/2 hour speaker on tolerance. I see it this way, the only thing I'm intolerant of is intolerant people and I HAD to have my blood drawn today. I go bleed into several tubes and make it back for the school of science and biology meetings. I get talked into yet ANOTHER high pressure committee and then announce I want to have a research assistant. There was more good news though, our fish and wildlife program is flourishing AND moving fully onto campus (it was at another college in Athens, don't ask)
So my work schedule looks a little something like this
1. teach my classes
2. FIX the anatomy classes from last year
3. Make new pathophysiology class.
4. work on research from Wales
5. work on antiobiotic research
6. do 2 high powered committees
7. write papers associated with the research
8. chair premedical committee
9. advise pre-professional math/science club
10. write all the things
11. shoot self or die of exhaustion whichever comes first.
Then I go to get the cats and honestly something is wrong. My vet wasn't around (she does a lot of farm calls). the aide was no help. First off, i ask about Soul. She knows nothing then says 'oh, she gave him a shot of....YORKIE BARKING LOUDLY' after three or four times I get that it's probably a steriod so I ask what was wrong. She doesn't know. She gets the cats and comes back and says 'the shot was for the swelling which went down in 2 days.' Okay so I wasn't imagining that but WHY was he swollen. No answer.
Kanda cries all the way home which is highly unusual. What isn't unusual is both smell like shit, literally, so I bathe Soul who about has a heart attack, gets away from me and soaks the bathroom. Kanda's box has litter in it and he's covered in it. I wash him. He's SO upset he has a massive asthma attack to the point I thought I'd have to give the sucker mouth to muzzle. I take the cage outside and THEN I'm upset. It looks like they used his box as a litter box. it's covered in wet litter. Benefit of the doubt: kanda was sleeping in his litter box but I've never gotten them back in this state before and she's going to hear about it.
ETA - to all my writing friends,
gsd_rtfn is doing their sign up for this week today. It's a really neat on again off again writing comm. Basically you sign up today with the things you want to write this week and you do a daily accounting and get a little cheerleading. It helps you keep on track.

And for my dragon friends, I've noticed that the new eggs are in like climates. The rotted leaves are in the jungle/forest and the rancid on is in desert/volcano
