Everything is so sticky
May. 26th, 2015 11:33 pmAh insane levels of humidity. I'm not that sad to be in a conference all day! Yesterday the seminar was over and I won a door prize, a box of flashcards. That could be helpful. I did go out in mid-day to find the Majestic theatre for Dad. I did learn that the Riverwalk feels safe and the surface streets have an air of menance and poverty. I said no chains but I went to yet another one but one I hadn't been to before, Dick's Last Resort where they sort of insult you all in fun. He had a field day with my humidity stricken Orphan Annie bush of hair. I got a glass which was good but the drink was very so-so (for 13$ OMG, how do we afford to drink here) and the same went for the food. I was too sticky and gross to go back to the conference without hosing off.
I did go on the Bad Wolf ghost tour which I'm saving the write up on it until I can get the pictures to go with it online. It will be better that way.
Today we went to the workshops. I think something went wrong because the welcome breakfast had NO welcome and that's never happened before. The workshops were okay. I did two for just me, a history one and one on beer and the senses. The other two were for the students but they were only so-so.
On the way back I met up with two other ladies here at the hotel and we went out for dinner and drinks. We went to Ritas which is known for its margaritas. Those were good. I had the same exact dinner as I had a Casa Rio which was better. It was funny. We're all ten years aparrt from 37-56. The eldest obviously never gets out so wanted to party. I was charged with finding a place with music. I did. So after a couple margarita at Ritas we went for Hurricanes at Pat O'Briens and now my entire food budget for the week drank away with insanely overpriced alcohol, I'm back in the hotel and learned another of my inspirations is dead (not to mention Grandma.
Leonard Nimoy, B.B. King and now Tanith Lee. Oh screw you 2015
And in weird newsI called the parents to tell them I hadn't been killed on the streets and the answering machine came on then I heard someone pick up and say 'hello hang on,' then the phone went dead. I asked if they were there. I thought the cell phone dropped out so I called back but there was no answer. I got through later tonight and my parents asked who were you talking to on the answering machine. No one was home....
