Hmm, I associate the hide behind with the Adirondack region and mostly remember their ability to hide behind themselves. They go along with hoop snakes and side hill winders which are cattle that have shorter legs on one side of their body than on the other so they can wind their way around hills. (This creates problems if you try to cross-breed left side hill winders with right side hill winders to get normal cattle.)
