The Asian Festival

was a lot of fun but crowded. Dear god. I also got the brilliant idea to potty at the casino on the way up and get my player's card renewed. Almost no one was there (also there would be portapotty's at the fest and I try anything I can to avoid those) so that was a good call.
It was in Franklin Park (where that conservancy is, ELD), a green lung of the city. I had to park far away. I knew that but the shuttle bus was unexpected, blue and white with the word Jamboree on it (I forget which one) but I mention it because this is the first time I've ever seen a bus with ALL the seats ripped out and replaced with park benches welded along the sides. There was also something on the bus I haven't seen in a while. Diversity (my area is 98.5% caucasian)
There were a lot of junk stalls. And I do mean junk. Lots of Indian/Asian clothing in sizes I couldn't even be bothered to look at and jewelry that was similar to what I have (or I wasn't in the mood or something since i bought nothing). I did find something cool for christmas for friends. The heat was way more than they said (I had jeans on since it was supposed to be in the 60s). Even the Indians were complaining and I figure if people from India are hot...
I was somewhat disappointed in the food. The stalls said cambodia, viet nam, etc etc but very few had something you couldn't find in any old Chinese restaurant. I did get bubble tea though. However, since there were SO many people to fight through and no place to sit but at the dance ampitheatre, I waited until I returned to the casino for dinner.
I did get to see some Chinese, Thai and Korean dancers. I really liked the sword and fan dances.
Watched some martial arts.
Bought stuff that I didn't need, like a tea pot which I think is only decorative (the sales person's English was questionable) and I bought a Japanese Boxwood Bonsai that I love and funny thing is they're from HERE. I commented on it and she asked where I was and I named the college. She's the one doing the interior decorating for Wood hall. Small World. Speaking of small worlds when I was on my way up, I stopped for gas and a co-worker and her husband were on their way back to Jackson from Columbus.
I also got a henna tattoo speaking of wastes of money.
I went back to the casino for a slice of pizza and some game time. Won some money on a Twilight rip off and Princess Bride machines and went home only 10$ down. I didn't stay too long. The heat sapped my will to live.
Also, I'm learning that I really might have to go on an atkins like diet which depresses me. My sugar didn't behave at all today.
Oh and I need to write this down before I forget, a new character is in my head and this bumper sticker works for his job, religion and geekiness. May the Forest be with you.

Date: 2014-05-25 02:29 am (UTC)Pretty tattoo! Kanda is looking hefty, though, or did you squash him flat to take the picture?
Which one is the Atkins diet? I remember it being all the rage. Is that the meat mostly one? Ew.

Date: 2014-05-25 02:45 am (UTC)thanks. I TOLD you he's fat. I'm not even touching him.
Yes it's the all meat/cheese thing. One hot dog bun = 100point jump in sugar bubble tea = took it to nearly 400

Date: 2014-05-25 02:56 am (UTC)The Christmas thing?
He is fat. Rogue is, too. She keeps eating everyone else's food. Doesn't help that Mom keeps giving her the biggest batch of food every day.

Date: 2014-05-26 01:24 am (UTC)She's currently determined to go behind either Mom's chair or mine, either way, it gets her 'lost' behind the chairs, and whiny until she gets out.

Date: 2014-05-26 01:36 am (UTC)Yeah, Mom's saying she's just like a little kid, she doesn't want to go to bed, but she's so sleepy, every time she stops, you can see her head start to droop.

Date: 2014-05-25 03:33 am (UTC)But since I don't know much about Cambodian cooking, I wanted to learn more. basically teriyaki chicken on a stick wasn't doing it for me. That said I'm stunned there IS a Cambodian place in Columbus and might look to see if they have a restaurant
oh they do the stuffed chicken wings were recced to me but I didn't know what they were stuffed with...

Date: 2014-05-28 03:17 am (UTC)That's some nice artwork on your hand (love fat Kanda). I use henna to dye my hair now. No shampoo or conditioner any more, and no chemical hair dye. I can't believe how much better my hair feels and looks.
If you decide to try going low carb it's not as bad as all that. There are a lot of low carb options that don't involve just eating nothing but meat. I snack on almonds a lot, which are surprisingly sweet, and blue diamond has come out with some amazing flavors. Blueberries, strawberries, (most berries actually) are low in carbs, but sweet. Super dark chocolates are usually low in carbs. It's a matter of taste though. I prefer dark chocolate, and I don't like it when it has a lot of sugar added. portion control is important though. 5 strawberries rather than a giant bowl full (which I'd like) half a cup of blueberries. A whole packet/tube of whole natural almonds is only 3 grams of net carbs. 8g total, but 5g are fiber. you can also grind them up and make thinks like pie crust for low carb pies, or buy almond flour for baking. I seem to recall that Splenda doesn't agree with you? You might try Stevia. It works pretty well in some things (Coffee for example) but not so well in others (Tea for example. I think it's the tannins that make it foam on top and the foam tastes bad)
I've got a lot of really good low carb recipes though. If there is something you want, I can probably find a recipe. My Colored Chili is really good, and fairly low carb too. No beans in it. Has other veggies instead. (which are colorful)

Date: 2014-05-28 03:35 am (UTC)thanks. My hair smells too foul to forgo shampoos. tried it. It was awful. It's probably going to be removed as short as posible before I have my surgery anyhow.
I wasn't allowed any of those on this diet. Period. I already eat that stuff on my low-carb diet and it sends my sugar sky high. When I went pure meat, it worked so much better. But I don't particularly LIKE it. I think though just substituting lunch with good quality lunch meat or something would help with the high sugars in the day.
Stevia tastes like bitter hell to me. I CAN put it in coffee though.
I've got tons of low-carb recipes having been on the diet for about 15 years now but I can always use more. I'm just not allowed most fruits and vegetables because of their sugar content. I will eat them in small quantities (and I can't eat any of them raw)
