I have put in grades and what an annoying day it was. I had to get up at the asscrack of dawn to get to the Doctor's. I haven't been complaining much about this because I get SO TIRED of complaining and I'm sure you're tired of hearing it but I'm having back issues. I have arthritis in my spine and the L2-L3 dermatome of my right thigh has been numb for years. Like still in medical school 20 years ago long. Well all the standing with no breaks has aggravated it. The whole thigh burns like someone is hitting it with a branding iron, especially when I'm walking and the trouser leg is brushing it. My knee buckles and I fall. I'm even having issues with the bladder (though that could be the diabetes). For the last two months I have been unable to cross my right leg without intense pain and I can barely do it without grabbing my pant leg and hauling the limb up.

Well doc thinks it's actually TWO problems, hip and spine. I had a boatload of x=rays today. I'll be having the MRI the moment the insurance approves of it. I could have blown that hip. My right leg isn't right. I was born with severe femoral torsion. If my foot is pointing out correctly my knee is about fifty degrees off front and vice versa. I have to spin on my foot to make the leg work. I'm fully compensated for that (this leg is also about an inch short and the foot is a full half size smaller than my left) but I know it's only a matter of time before the abnormal biomechanics means the hip will be shot. I might be there. There was a decreased reflex response on the right showing there is definitely nerve involvement. I'll probably have to have another nerve conduction test too.

So it was a particularly shitastic beginning of the day. It was ungodly early too so I hit all the stores in Jackson. Dollar Tree, Wal-mart (returned some too-cheap frames), Krogers, Big Lots (needed more holiday cards), CVS and the tea caddy (only to find it was closed on mondays). I could NOT find a christmas sticker anywhere but I did mail out most of my cards. I also saw that the christmas decorations had the names of the people who ponied up the monday and turned into a 12 year old. One was 'Dick Fite.'

I trundled to work to put in grades, not taking a lunch since it was 1030 and I would be able to get it done. (Yeah...at 2 fucking thirty). I got laywayed by a co-worker with a new adjunct. 'she's a newly minted phd in biomedical. We must keep her.' Um. thanks for saying that right in front of the girl when I KNOW there's no work for her and won't be. We're not even replacing faculty we're losing. To make matters worse, an advisee calls at 2pm to schedule a time to register for classes. Um that was back in OCTOBER. I told her I wasn't coming in (I'm not, I'm leaving) and we could do this over email and that it was unlikely she'd get into any gen ed courses at this point because registration had been going on for about 7 weeks now and she should have done it then (she always does this and I am done enabling her.)

I got home, did my writers group thing and started wrapping gifts. I papercut my finger with the wrapping paper and tore off part of the nail on that finger on the cardboard box but it all should go out tomorrow afternoon. I got very sad through it for some reason.

Then mom went and made it worse. Prejudice Girl and her asshole husband are not only coming to OUR house, they are going to Lucky Uncle's party too. So I have to see them twice. So glad they'll be there to ruin my holiday. Hmmm time to buy some syrup of Ipecac for at least one of these visits or arrange to go out drinking with friends again.
