The diabetes has not touched my eyes. Huzzah. I can't feel my feet but at least I'm not going blind. The eye doctor did give me the correct prescription in my left eye and the astigmatic contact for the worsening astigmatism in my right. In the five minutes I wore them before having to have the dilation, I can say the weighted contact for astigmatism is a bitch and I'm probably gonna hate it. And he's right, with the left contact fixed (he undercorrected it so I could read but I'm literally unable to see road signs at a distance that is anything over about 20 feet) I can't read almost at all. So do I want to go undercorrected and just wear my glasses any time I'm going somewhere new and need to read road signs or do I want to wear readers? I'll get a week to try it out and decide.

But of course it was mid west grey all week but the day I have to get my eyes dilated there's sun everywhere. I also did the wash and grocery shop because the storm will be here (in theory) on normal grocery day and I AM a food hoarder so... I had taken a half dozen magazines to read while waiting on laundromat, diabetic/weight watcher recipe mags. Couldn't find anything to go buy at the story that I wanted to make. THen it hits me. You're sitting in the library next door to the laundromat. Go find a cook book and so i did but could barely read it (thank you dilatd eyes). Nothing says fun like grocery shopping when you're practically have double vision and everything is blurry. I also decided that meant I couldn't go to Arch and Eddie's for a beer and dinner because I couldn't read my book so I called the Mexican place for chile rellenos take away because I'm BEAT.

THis morning was even WORSE. I knew I was fucked when I got up the hill at 7 AM and a)I started down the highway mostly sideways and b) the 18 wheelers were going 20 mph instead of flying. Now I've been finding that the road at 7AM is usually packed (far more so than I knew) but today I was the only moron out there leading me to believe the other people are teachers etc and all the schools were closed today. An 18 wheeler did jack knife and fall over at Jackson keeping my students from class. WHy did I keep going? a) most of my students were already underway and I didn't want them to drive for nothing and b) i'm a special brand of stupid.

I pulled another gallon plastic bag's worth of fiberglass out of the vents.Today I got pissed and ripped them out of the floor and just dug in there, hoping this isn't when rodent decides to show up. I'm giving the bag to the landlord. If he's lucky I'll staple the rent check to the bag, if he's unlucky it will be IN the bag of fiberglass.

So house hunting. mom found this house It's kinda perfect in many ways but the price. Unless this comes down a lot, there's just no way. I can't afford this.

In many ways I've coveted this house for 9 years. scroll down to brick house on south street Pros - it's cute, it's a block from the library, it's two doors down from my favorite pizza place in Jackson, it's brick.

Cons - it's IN TOWN and I hate that. It's right next door to child services (which seems like a place that attracts bad elements on occasion), the bathroom was obviously originally OUTSIDE the house (well it is old), the view is of crowded houses, it's in town (it bears repeating), it's still not the Athens/Albany area and there's jack to do in Jackson (appropriately named). Still, I like this house.

Glad your eye's okay (not bleeding behind it). I'm also glad you made it to work & back in one piece! <3

Maybe you should put the check in the bag of fiberglass & that your landlord will get the hint. ;p

I like that brick house too! A pity it's not in a better location for you. :D

thanks me too.

I wish he would but he hasn't fixed the two things doing water damage to his place so I'm not hopeful

it's a fun house but man, I'm not sure I want to be there, you know?

You're welcome! :D

XD Well, maybe he needs to keep getting his check in the bags of fiberglass before he'll get it. Take pix of the water damage & staple the check to it too.

*sighs* yeah...

Oh he knows about the water damage. He's seen it, tells me he'll be right back to fix it...for nine years now

glad your eyes are ok - and sheesh be careful driving in all that mess (I miss winter, but I don't envy you all that ice)

and I like the home your mom found - I love that window seat!

and OMG I love that old brick house in Jackson (although I HATE their video/slideshow presentation. I like to flip through pics on my own)

Me too, thanks.

I'm fine with driving in snow. There's traction. Ice just blows.

It's a nice house but it's far too expensive in general, but especially for it's depressed location.

I hate the slideshows too. There are two Jackson realtors who use them, This realtor is brand new

The houses we like are rarely where we want them to be! Still: the house your mom found for you is nice: clean, easy to maintain, cozy and warm-looking.... How about negotiating the price? If you're gonna stay in Ohio, it's so. much. better than renting!!

Glad your eye is all right. That (and the drive) could be scary.

I like the idea of the check in the bag. Landlord sounds like a real slacker.

I would have to check into taxes etc. Athens is a very wealthy county which is why this is so expensive. 10 miles closer to school and the taxes are about half.

But you're right, the houses never seem to be where I want to be and the houses that are where I want to be, blow.

I'm glad too.

My landlord is too OLD for this. He's about 70 and that's too old to run a construction company all day and come here and do this

Too bad he doesn't pass on the house to someone younger to take care of it.

I'm 70 and in fairly good condition....and it would be rough on me to run more than one house....

He planned to give it to his son who is my age but either the son backed out on it or he never asked first....at one point he asked if I wanted to buy the apts. Oh hell no.

I get that; from what you've told me, I wouldn't want to buy it either.

Maybe his son doesn't want the hassle....

That's very good news that your eyes are doing okay. Hopefully you'll find a solution for reading signs while driving.

thanks. I'm thinking this is NOT it. The astigmatic contacts a) over correct and are blurry b) bug the living hell out of me

From: [identity profile] dragonydreams.livejournal.com
I guess they're not for everyone. I've been wearing astigmatic contacts for so long that I forget that not everything works the same for everyone.

yeah. I'm very sensitive when it comes to eye stuff. It feels like its gouging my cornea (and okay it kinda is)

Glad your eyes are fine, but the glasses/contact situation sounds like there is no perfect solution.

That is a very nice house, but it is expensive.

there is no good solution. the astigmatism contact is a) uncomfortable and b) over correcting. it's blurry.

yeah that house is too much for what it is

I don't even attempt contacts. I get to put the ophthalmologist through his paces this Friday. Whee.

Eek to fiberglass and rodent!
