Writerly Ways

Most of my writerly ways can be found here. Lots of good publishing news there.
The rest of it is going to be me wondering about Nano. But CoM, that's in NOVEMBER. Yeah and I wasn't prepared for half of April to be gone already but here we are. I want time to think about it.
In reality I've been flip flopping back and forth between non-erotica and erotica every other year. I'm on non-erotica this year. I had thought to either do a sequel to SPlinters of the Silver and Cold Iron. I have that done and could feasibly start marketing it and say the sequel is halfway done.
I could finish the sequel to Beneath the Torn Sky. I started that for another nano (where in I kinda cheated and the 50K was split between two stories). BUT I've never even finished the first story so I have a lot to do between the two. I'm giving Torn Sky to my writers group and I'm seeing big holes in it as a I do. I'm not sure I should start this sequel again until those are fixed (even though I know it gets ELD's vote).
I also have that pseudo-Viking thing knocking around in my head and a YA UF story that would have at least one gay character. I've decided I just don't care about that any more. I don't need a third pseudonym to write that stuff.
BUT here's the thing. I know I can sell the erotica. I've desperately wanted to do a sequel to Aaron and Rhys's story. ALl I have there are ideas and nothing cohesive (but would welcome ideas from those who have read it). Waiting as long as I have for a sequel is already a stupid shit idea. Bad marketing too.
That leaves a sequel to Soldiers of the Sun. I've already mentioned how problematic it could be. I think if we move it from romance to the other imprint it would be possible. They hinted they wanted it. I think it would be dumb not to at least try. However, it's a time intensive bitch to write with all the historical research needed. It might be better to just write this as a I go this summer.
Kaleo and Aneurin's story won't leave me alone either. It would literally be the easiest nano. It doesn't help shore up the marketing of the series for the other two. I know this one is a duology though.
So why not just skip the non-erotica (which I might)? I really DO want to try and publish other things. I think what I NEED to do is get a calendar and plot out not story outlines but rather writing and editing times. THAT would be helpful. Write on these days. Polish on these. Alternate which writing hat I'm wearing.
Any thoughts?
I'm not putting up the count because with all the conference prep I did last week and cover spec stuff I didn't write much.

And yeah, research's a bitch.

Date: 2015-04-13 02:35 pm (UTC)Of course there is the more sane option of just writing all year round and doing it ALL.
research is and even moreso during Nano
