Better than Equal

Stephen’s arm ached and trembled ever so slightly as he held off the demon. The twelve-year-old ignored his pain, bringing his other arm around. His sword sliced off the massive, horned head even as its toxic tongue reached for him. Stephen jumped back out of the toxin's reach then contemplated his kill, trying to decide what would be the best trophy to take to show others he wasn’t to be trifled with. Stephen knew this practice was necessary. Father told him it would do him no good to merely be Angelus’ equal. He had to be better than his father.
