is celebrating Martin Luther King JR Day by pissing it away and getting nothing done so in the spirit of that,
hierath posted these questions and they interested me so I'm reposting them with my answers. Feel free to do the same
What do you read? Mainstream, genre, Young Adult? I'm more a genre reader, mystery is my favorite followed closely by urban fantasy, fantasy, SF and horror. I do read a wide variety of non-fiction, most especially true crime, history and ghost hunting
What do you never read? I don't like the word 'never' but I rarely read (or enjoy) 'mainstream' fiction, romances and (auto)biographies.
Morning reading, Afternoon reading or Nighttime reading? I'd do it all if I could. But mostly at night since well I work in the day
Bed, Bath or Bus? oh hell anywhere. I even keep a nonfiction book in the car to read in those lines at the fast food joints/banks. Mostly though I read in the tub or in bed. There isn't a bus in 80 miles of here and it would make me sick I'm afraid
Hardback or Trade Paperback or Mass Market Paperback or eBook? any, all though so far I've yet to find an ereader that didn't give me eye strain and massive headaches. No wonder the eye doctors are excited by this new tech
Bookmark or Dogear? Bookmark. I'd break the fingers of anyone dogearring my books
Alphabetize by author, title, or random? jumble. I want to alphabetize by author but i don't have the room
Keep, Throw Away, or Sell?I used to keep. Now, in my 40's afer many moves, I've decided keeping is not worth it. i never reread (except for manga). I used to reread all the time when I was younger. Now, who has time to reread? I can barely keep up with the new stuff I want to read. I have whole series I've forgotten to go back to.
So now I keep only my best loved series, my manga (well the good ones) and the rest are gifted to friends and family or given to libraries or sold to used book stores
Short story or novel? Novels. I hate to say it, being a short story writer, but i don't like short stories. I only read anthologies if I'm in them or one of my favorite authors are and I still usually regret spending the money. The only short stories i routinely read are fanfic
Stop reading when tired or at chapter breaks? At
Given my time restraints I stop reading whereever I am when I have to put the book down but if I have plenty of time and can chose my stopping point then at chapter breaks
Buy or Borrow? both. But i borrow a lot. I'm known to all the local librarians. It's just a better choice really
Buying choice: Book Reviews, Recommendation, or Browse? All three. Browsing is why I don't like buying books on line.
Tidy ending or cliffhanger? Mostly tidy ending. Even in series, I prefer at least the main action of whatever book I'm on in the series to wrap up. In mysteries, this usually isn't a problem. In fantasy, lately, they don't even do that. It just ends as if hmmm I havge 400 pages here, let's meander over to the next book. I hate that.
Standalone or Series? Both but since i read tons of mysteries, it's almost impossible to find stand alones and fantasy isn't much better
Favourite book of which nobody else has heard? I would have no idea.
Top 3 favourite books read within the last few years? Again no idea. you'd be better off asking me which books to avoid.
Top 5 favourite books of all time? see above
