There was no way I was missing the 10th annual Mothman festival (check it out). It's also the 45 anniversary of the siting of this cryptid. And it was a beautiful day, in the low 70's with a nice breeze.

I go down early since last year paranormal researcher and author, Rosemary Ellen Guiley's talk was earlier in the day. Naturally, I get there and it's at 3. Never fear. I ran thru the festival repeating my performance of last Saturday at the farmers' market, in other words running around flinging money in the air. Might as well just lit it on fire for all the responsibility I showed.

I did get holiday gifts though, including a ghost book for my brother and a book on Salem witchs from Ms Guiley (signed). I mean how could I resist? I had my Salem Mass shirt on. I did get a mothman pancake for breakfast (the money goes to establishing hostels for military families when family members have prolonged stays at VA hospitals.) I got to see one of my former students hosting the Miss Mothman beauty paegent (little miss divison), okay not my thing but I said I'd stop in if I were there.

Needing to kill time before the talk I wanted to hear, I went to lunch at the new mexican restauran another student hostesses at. It was pricey. my table was filthy and I made them clean it. I suspect my whole section had no waiter/waitress since various ones would show up from time to time to see how we were doing. The table next to me had lousy margaritas and had to have them replaced (they were also virulent green) the table in front of me had to wait so long they gav e them chips and salsa as a 'we're sorry ' (yeah you didn't even get chips and salsa at this place). I waited just as long but I suspect since i ordered something cheap no one cared. My cheese quesadilla came with nothing, just this dry bare tortilla. thank god i got beans. Yeah won't be returning to this place. It was such a dump two of the bathroom stalls had no doors. this used to be a bennigans. Apparently it's cursed to have shit service.

I wander back to the festival and go into a shop saying they have coffee. I go in and realize their coffee shop has no actual machines. thank you no. I don't like instant cappucino and i'll be damned if i'll pay coffee house prices for it. They also had one of those painted boards with the face cut out for tourist pictures, not of the mothman but of Cornstalk. I'm thinking is that wise? (let alone racially sensitive) Cornstalk got betrayed at Point Pleasant and cursed its ass (and it looks like that curse is still going strong). Maybe we don't want to piss off his spirit.

I got to the State theatre in time to hear the tail end of some conspiracy theorist's talk. I came prepared for this. I had stuff to write on especially since I had an hour to kill. Unfortunately there had to be something in that food I ate because it fucked my sugar hard and I could barely stay awake.

Another ghost hunter talked and I almost felt sorry for her. She kept asking for questions and she was the only speaker NOT to get any but frankly, I've heard this story the last four mothman festivals and I'm sure half the audience has too (and she was sick and obviously not into it) but it's also a very self serving talk about how her psychicness intersects with the legend. Not doing it for me. I did enjoy Ms Guiley's talk on the Djinn and it got my wheels turning (go to [livejournal.com profile] jana_denardo for more). I headed for home after that.

Other things I saw (and naturally I forgot the damn camera): stormtroopers invading Point Pleasant including ones in camo, desert camo and snow camo), multiple Men in Black (highly associated with the Mothman tales, giving people cancer if you believe that conspiracy dude), ghostbusters, Scooby Doo's Mystery van and I stopped in an antique mall/craft store, the Mason Jar (sadly country crafts, shudder). they had a vanity I wanted if I had a bigger house. It was actually quite small as far as the vanity was concerned, just one small round table top with drawer about the size of a night stand BUT from where you'd sit in front of it, it had a triptych mirror. it was cool.

day 300+ Caturday, Kanda says WHY are you pointing that camera over here )
