Another day of wild swings
Dec. 16th, 2016 11:46 pmI went down to the university and met with our new temp hire and showed him around, sent some notes and gave him the text book I had picked out. I like him so far (granted I barely know him but he seems nice and willing to work with us). I fixed up all the coffees for next semester's research and I'm giving out the remainder this holiday.
But that really did eat up a big chunk of the day and then I had the absolute pleasure of doing all the promo for the Once Upon a Time in the Weird West anthology. It's out today! My story is :
and it has Tsela in it, remember me sharing this?
You can find out more here AND it's one SALE!! 30% off (and if you do read it, I'd love it if you review it. Reviews help sales! (even bad ones, yes I know, weird but that's Amazon!)).
After that I was ready to clean house and get ready to go home in a day or two...only to find out a friend of mine whom I've known for years is back in the hospital (some of the EQ fans might know Paulie, as she went by back then). Her lung cancer is out of remission and has spread to her brain. I'm very saddened by this but I suspected it was coming. I tried being positive with her (especially when it went into remission earlier this year) because I know something a lot of people don't: the survival rates of lung cancer and how quickly it spreads. 2016 just bites.
I didn't clean...well sort of but not really. I took my mind off things with wrapping Christmas gifts and finishing up the cards (I got yours
spiffikins &
sonjajade). Half the mess in the back room was the heaps of gifts. And then I saw this article on how people rip you off with gift cards (i.e. they do it before you even buy them, it's worth reading).
And I was being creative tonight so I'm going to go back to that after I give you some music. The song for Day 16 is brand new from Bon Jovi. I'll be honest, it's not his best song but I liked the video. It's his protest against the way young women are sexualized in the music industry (I remember one sound bite from American Idol when Cowell was one it, saying a girl with a beautiful voice would never make it because she was too fat and unsexy). I suppose some people will get bent out of shape either thinking this is a shaming video (I don't see it that way) or how dare a man get involved with this at all, seeing it as patronizing. To me, I'll take any ally in fighting the sexism and exploitation of women, I don't care about the gender (does this make me a bad feminist? Some women would say yes).
