It's been one hell of a week

So as Evil_little_dog so kindly updated you, I have done myself a mischief. I have ligamentous laxity. Without being too graphic, I got up off the couch, my knee hyperextended and locked. Normally I can catch myself. this time I didn't. I fell forward with my knee like that and long story short, I've destroyed it.
I had to call 911 and had to army crawl to get the door open for them. They took me to the local hospital. After four agonizing hours they reset the joint and for a while were saying I could go home. Then they decided maybe the blood flow to the foot didn't look right. Best thing they did! I was medi-flighted to a level one trauma center in Columbus. I had damaged the artery (main on to the lower leg) and had to have vascular surgery. He told me going under I had a good shot at losing my leg.
I didn't (yet) Ortho operated later that night and put an external fixator on my leg to stablize it. There is so much tissue swelling that they can't do a knee replacement (more likely) or reconstruction for weeks. They also managed to somehow blow the other surgical site and my entire groin and thigh is one huge hematoma that could have ended up in a third surgery(didn't)
I am in a fuck-ton of pain. I'll have to flip my classes to online because I will be in the hospital/nursing home for 3 weeks and THEN have surgery to do the repair. I'll be in therapy until at least May. I'm also pretty depressed (obviously) and bored. I just keep praying that the pins for the fixator don't get infected, that I don't get pneumonia and I don't get a bed sore. It's going to be a long couple of months. I'm going to need a lot of strength to get me through it. If yo have stories/art you think would be a fun distraction, send it along.

Date: 2021-03-07 11:27 pm (UTC)As for entertainment, are you familiar with the Hallmarks of Felinity? And I don't know if this is something you might enjoy, but my currently most favourite Vlog, Talasbuan, might also offer some distraction. They're a young couple who're lving off grid in Middle/Northern Sweden, and I find their vids very enjoyable. Very calm, usually also interspersed by beautiful landscape shots and drone flights, while following them through their daily tasks and challenges. They're a very down-to-earth, sensible coupble who're aiming at a self-supporting life eventually. Vlog #77, "Our harshest winter so far" has a few breathtakingly beautiful drone flight scenes of winter landscapes.

Date: 2021-03-08 05:56 pm (UTC)It's hard to believe that it'll be three weeks before they can do the surgery on the knee. I can imagine just how depressed and bored you will be. As for recs, I started reading Trail of Lightning (The Sixth World Series) by Rebecca Roanhorse and it is really good. I'm also really enjoying the Kate Daniels series (Ilona Andrews). Hopefully you can get a hold of those if they sound good to you.
I saw this on FB yesterday and it gave me a chuckle:
And I just made a M[F]M post to celebrate International Women's Day.

Date: 2021-03-11 06:24 am (UTC)Have some Space Australia stories. They're my new comfort food.
Fic idea I was struck with the other day and keep thinking about: a Vulcan adopts a cat.
my fav trope is like, nonhuman characters not understanding human needs/customs but still being super supportive of their human companion.
imagine we make contact with an alien species that’s like, vastly technologically superior, they could fucking kill us in a single shot if they really wanted to . . . and this species has never eaten salad before.
