It was fun and yet...

and yet it was disappointing AF at the same time.
Last night was rough as it was. I think I figured out why my stomach has been so nauseated/GERD issuey. Yesterday I had an after dinner caramel apple latte from tim Horton's (very good). At 3:30 AM, I rolled onto my side, compressed my stomach and all that coffee reappeared as very discernible caramel apple latte so basically 9 hours later my stomach hadn't even digested liquid. Sigh. I really do need to make that appointment.
So since I slept badly (and breathed stomach acid into my lungs) I got a late start to the Cryptid steampunk event at the meadery/winery Dutch Creek. I thought it was in Nelsonville which is a bit further. It was in Athens, actually just a couple miles from Stroud's Run (which is in my novel!) My steampunk group has been doing stuff with them. I've met the owners at Queen City Steam.
And I get there (an hour away) and there is nothing much. Four vendors, all of whom I know from various steampunk events. And I rather feel bad for them. One guy was from nearly 400 miles away (I ended up buying some costume piece from here.) though why no one vetted this better I'm not sure. I know they were trying to make it a thing. They really wanted it to be good. THe only other people there were three couples who had NO idea this was happening and were confused and one other steampunk person. The sweet steam chocolate people were there (hey you, she remembered me) and the lady I bought the mushroom necklace from in Loveland this past March (have I mention I got into mushrooms and goblincore heavy this year?) She had a duck.
No, really.
Treasure the duck. I pet her. She nibbled me. I didn't buy anything but I got a rubber duck from the vintners because they had all these duck based games (with duck prizes) It's a cute pink/white pegasus duck. I didn't play the games though (they were down a hill and my cane was in the car and I had no intention of staying until the games were over.)
In many ways I felt bad for the organizers too because they probably lost money on this because they had Steampunk Xena showing up, she's a fire dancer. I'm not sure if others would come later but the costume contest and Xena weren't until after dark and I was long gone with a bottle of cherry mead. (after learning I didn't like the blackberry one much.)
On the short drive into Athens it occurs to me...you didn't just have the glass of blackberry mead. You had a flight before that testing them out (hint bourbon mead wine was just wrong). You basically drank 3/4s a bottle of wine. Are you okay to drive? (I have no idea because it takes way more than that to make me buzzed) So I got to Kroger's just to wait it out.
The 25$ of cheese, equal dollars of international cookies from Marshalls and the marble skull serving plate suggest that yes it was a good idea to be off the road. I got take out from my favorite Chinese place (which had been slipping) and when I got home it leaked ALL over my dress, carpet, computer kitchen as I ran it in (also it wasn't good I need to find a new place).
I had a little fun but yeah it wasn't worth the 2 hours on the road round trip (oddly I haven't been going to Athens much any more) I was SO glad I didn't wear my good expensive dress because I'd have lost it about the general's tso sauce. At least the skirt it did get on was dark blue and you won't be able to see a stain.
I forgot to do
thefridayfive but I wanted to so here they are
1. What are your 5 favorite flowers? Roses, lilacs, lilies, irises and peonies
2. What do you like to do with flowers? I generally don't do much with them. Occasionally I'll cut them and bring them inside. I do cook/drink a lot with flowers. That might be my biggest use of them other than growing them just to look at.
3. Do you like native flowers, domestic flowers, or a mix of both? A mix but I'm more about the native flowers or at the very least not planting things that can go invasive exotic all over the place. Me along with my university (especially when I was in FL) fought with Lowes/Walmart etc about bringing in exotic plants which yes were pretty but were dangerous.
4. Do you grow flowers yourself, or just look at what grows elsewhere? I grow more than I have space for. My garden is stupid crowded and much of the university's greenhouse is all my crap and then I put more at my parents because there was just not enough room here.
5. Do you know (any version of) the Language of Flowers? I do and I have used it in stories.
