I need to remember I'm diabetic now. I need to bring small snacks withme. I need to stop saying I'm just stopping by the office for an hour because like today it's always 6 hours and I had nothing to eat. Still reeling from that.
So i'm brain dead. So let's talk about the happy today. WHen I got home two separate book orders came in. THe Book of Lost Things - John Connolly, Linda Fairstein's newest, and something I took a chance on The Good Thief - Hannah Tinti. I'm so excited I don't know where to start. Oh I know, finish the Kay Hooper book I already started. I think i figured out why Ilike Hooper's stuff so much. Yeah it's psychic mysteries but she writes like I do. Mostly dialogue driven stuff. i have a new role model.
I liked it. Really liked it. I like that they actually translate the swears. (Roy, Maes Ed, SHEESH!) Of course I think the REALLY liked it has more to do with the Roy blipvert there in the center. That was hot.
What I liked the best was Ed's animation. He really looked in pain curling in on himself after the nightmare. But more importantly he looked YOUNG. All too often he just looks like a short adult but he's still little more than a kid in this. I like that he looked young and vulnerable.
I liked Roy's eyes and Armstrong's eyelashes. I think the animators are doing a good job.
I need to compare this to the manga but I wasn't sure why Scar attacked Ed in this. I think there was a provoking act in the manga but can't remember right now. Ed is obviously too young to have been in the war.
Now I see what
evil_little_dog was saying about Ed just lying there. It does go on a tad long but again Ed's still a young man. Hell I've seen them fall apart in my office over lesser things (and at an older age). He sees it as a way to guarantee Al's life, knowing his brother can't get away (granted what SORT of life Ed thinks Al will have after he later makes a b ig deal about being the only one who can keep Al's soul sealed)
Riza asking why is armstrong naked (don't exagerrate)
Havoc yelling at Amrstrong for blowing up the street
Maes...i still want to know what he was really up to since I don't buy he was hiding.
the tiny glimpse of Kimbley. licks.
Things I didn't like (and actually this is more plot stuff than manga vs anime since I believe they're the same in this case)
Roy shooting over Scar's head and saying stop you're under arrest. Yeah it's the honorable thing to do. He's exploded several heads already and is about to touch Ed and more importantly he doesn't know you're there you fucking plug him and ask questions later.
Riza missing Scar. I've always hated that. You don't dance around bullets. Sorry. (yeah I know it's an action story cliche but still it bugs me every time)
the fact they change the spellings all the damn time. Last week it was Ishbal and Ishbalans. this time it's Ishval and Ishavalites (pick one, please. I know translating can go either way, ditto the R/L issue Reto or Leto PICK ONE)
but the most hysterical thing, Ed saying 'uncoolness to the max' WTF? Is it 1986 again? Please tell me I don't have to dust off my teenaged vocabulary because it's back in style. Granted I could easily do it. I'm just that lame.
ETA - I also liked the paternal/fraternal/maternal way Maes, Roy and Riza all use with Ed and AL

Date: 2009-05-05 11:42 am (UTC)Scar's justhatfast. Riza couldn't hit him any more than Armstrong could.

Date: 2009-05-05 02:23 am (UTC)Riza and Armstrong totally rock. My attention keeps focusing on them. I'm so excited to see Kimbley and grown up Winry soon.
The 'uncoolness' line had me in tears I was laughing so hard. Did I step into a time warp? I almost expect Roy and co to be driving a hippy bus or something now. Oh wait, wrong era.

Date: 2009-05-05 02:31 am (UTC)Yes the hippie bus is about 20 years too early. I'mnot THAT old! Ha.

Date: 2009-05-05 02:37 am (UTC)Having just read the manga for the first time this week, there wasn't really a confrontation with Scar. He just heard the name when someone was looking for Ed to protect him, and Scar was like "OMG, State Alchemist!"
And Riza missing Scar bothered me too. How many shots did she fire? She should've nailed him a few times.
LOL, maybe I'm young enough that I am part of the group bringing it back, but I so enjoyed the "Uncoolness to the max" line, haha.
LOVE Hughes hiding in the shadows. XD
