Let's just say that as far as the end of the year faculty meetings go, this was relatively painless and done relatively early and i get the impression if I stay here much longer I will usurp control of the department.

Miracle of miracles my landlord actually is landscaping under my window as I type. YAY. I still think i'll put in tomatoes in containers and maybe let him put down rock and I'll put in perenial flowers. Also, he dug up a lily. Not blooming but the rhizomes say lily. had to be something evil_little_dog gave me two years ago so who know what kind it is



And I'm mostly conflicted because i honestly believe that much of this conflict need not have happened. Ed and Riza forced it. I know others on my list do not agree but Roy was in control UNTIL they tried to wrest it from him. He was cognizant of his surroundings, of Riza being hurt. He wasn’t so out of control that any of his companions or civilians were in danger. It was an unneeded intervention that escalated to heights of passion (as these things will tend to do). There is no reason Roy shouldn’t have killed Envy. He wasn’t going to loose himself as they all seemed to think, including Scar who has like zero basis for his judgment (other than he himself had gone down that route). If Roy had started screaming I'm going to burn your arm off without provocation THEN the intervention would have been more warrented. Roy doesn't go that crazy until Riza and Ed force the escalation.

I guess for me there is no good argument made that by killing a homunculus, something Roy has already done, was going to turn him into a beast. I don’t buy ‘but he was doing it to revenge Maes’ as a viable argument. He took out Lust because she hurt Havoc and was threatening Riza and Al. And Envy needed to die. At least Riza does realize Envy has to die but honestly, all of this drama? While exciting, could have been avoided if Riza/Ed had just held their peace. Like I said, I don’t buy their reasoning, at all. Envy isn’t a human. Roy isn’t hurting any humans in order to kill it. If we were worried about Roy turning into a beast, I’d say the chances were better during the war or even when he was fighting others in the military several chapters ago, though he was fighting to not kill because they were human. You don’t let a monster like Envy live (noting that the first thing Envy did was try to possess Edward)

So I’m torn between ‘wow, this was very well written drama’ and ‘really, I don’t see it’s purpose.’ That said, it was well written. Probably at this point anyone who hasn’t seen Riza/Roy before has to see it now. An admission of ‘I’ll kill myself rather than live without you’ says it all. The scene was darkly beautiful. (though I expected Edward to have a reaction to Riza’s statement). And in the realm of well written but not sure I buy it, Envy’s suicide. You have to feel sort of sorry for Envy, wanting to be understood even if it would do him no good. He’s not going to change for all of Edward’s understanding and he chooses to end his empty existence. Eh, not the end I’d hope for Envy or one I even buy into completely but there you have it. His big crying eye as he melts away made me want to icon it.

And hey I was right about Sloth. Cool. Olivia needs to work on her rallying speeches if she wants to be president down the road. ‘Yeah you’re likely to get eaten’ needs work. Alex Louis was very cool in this (for the record I started the current ficlet I’m doing with him before I saw this).
