So we went to the Pittsburgh Botanical Gardens which turn out to be pretty much in our back yard. Here's the thing, it was nice BUT their ambitions outstrip their budget and it shows. The Japanese garden was a pond with lilies and a single Japanese lantern. The garden itself is smallish and a lot of it is geared to kids and I liked that. The visitor center and the event centers were big. THere was a log cabin homestead as well.

I liked that they had 'newspaper mail boxes' (remember those?) that had the tree's details so you can learn more. But the issue for me is this was like a walk on my own property here at the parents. Just a few nice paths through the native woods. I can do that on our own 40 acres (which I know not everyone can and this is great for them). the flower gardens needed to be more ambitious but I found two plants I had no idea what they were and naturally they were the ones without tags. Sigh.

Still it was a nice day out. My knee held up sans brace because the brace that was perfect last year when the leg was really atrophied no longer fits and it is the biggest they make. Excuse me but my knee is not fat. Actual athletes have huge muscular legs. Where the hell are they getting braces? I had some pain and I certainly didn't go more than a mile but it was something and I was happy to do it.

Afterwards we hit a diner I've never been to before, good stuff.

Came home and things went sideways. My phone is now 'not registered on the network' I can't send or receive calls or texts. It's done this before but never for so long. Then the power went out. It came back. I got on to the carrier and was live chatting them but my computer couldn't stay online. I had to end the chat and restart the computer. I'm so done.

But I have one and its got some very big roses now.

If you look closely you can see st john's wort I can do fuck all about. There are also creeper vines, elm and ash trees and I had to get that nonsense out of there. Which means climbing behind and into those roses. So many cuts, so much thinned blood spilled.

For some reason my knee is a swollen mess more painful than it's been in months.

I didn't get much done but mom seemed shocked I was coming this week. Not next week? Okay fine, next week it is. Gives me time to do more since I'm slow AF.

I keep saying no more furniture pieces I have to build. Mom has sent me two....I built one today. OMG what fuckwad puts the screws against the legs so you can't make a rotation of a tool to tighten it?

And yes I know I didn't do a Writerly Ways. ELD and were talking now that she's back from her UK vacation and suddenly it was after 1030 pm so ....tomorrow?

The one open call closed early THREE months early so I totally missed it but I'll keep my eyes out open for another call so that's disappointing as is the fact that at least one pea plant and one watermelon died overnight. Ah well.

I spent the day switching the casual clothes over. They were in the hope chest covered in manga. I know this much I need to get rid of some of these t-shirts and some of these old manga. I did put a bunch of stuff in a box to donate.

I managed to walk to the garbage dumpster over the gravel without my cane. It was good. I did however find the one piece of oil that splattered last night...with the bad leg's foot and slipped. Didn't fall but the knee is kinda pissy.

Is just how sick the heat makes me. Leave off the fact that it makes my skin peel off for a moment. I can live with that pain. But even a few minutes in the heat makes me nauseated to the point I can hardly stand up. Worse, it makes me so tired I can barely function. I honestly wasn't sure I was safe to drive home today. It's Ninety-two freaking degrees today with high humidity. I was so freaking sick. I KNEW that living in Florida would suck for me but desperate times and a generous offer from [livejournal.com profile] evil_little_dog made that choice for me. ELD and [livejournal.com profile] silvrethorn will tell you just how many outdoor events they were forced to abandon me under a tree because I was too sick to go on from the heat.

I thought the southwest would be better but after living there a month, the longest month of my life, I was proven wrong. I was just as sick and I thought I would be at least able to breathe because it wasn't humid. Nope. It was worse. Turns out I was allergic to everything Tucson is. 23 years later I've never been back. I was more sick in the desert than I was in the swamp (never saw that one coming). worse, with all due respect to my friends who live and love it, the southwest is pretty much my hell. Not green enough. Not cold enough.

And now I have to go back down there. You know that's why I don't even care I have just ONE full day to explore San Antonio. It's going to be 5 days of me praying for A/C (and going out at night). I couldn't go out in the day much anyhow. At least I know that and won't be too disappointed if I don't get to see much.

I just wish it wasn't Florida in Ohio right now. I went out early this morning (after Mom called me to taunt me about it being hotter here than the Carolinas and Florida) to my garden. He left NOTHING. He even managed to dig the blades into the ground and pull up plastic. I can't save any of my perennials because outside of the spirea, one rose and one yucca I can't tell where ANYTHING is. Okay I can see what used to be daylilies. Sigh.

Ever get the thought in your head that goes 'what is it about me that can kill a conversation?' I'm not talking about saying something controversial or anything. It's just that I've noticed that a conversation is going full tilt and I say something and it's deader than a doornail and I'm like wtf did I say wrong?

And I think a lot of you might be interested in this link, especially [livejournal.com profile] a2zmom and [livejournal.com profile] sholio, it's some meta not just about the new Avengers movie but on Joss's writing in general. I'm not a huge fan of meta as a rule (well to write it, I guess) but this article pretty much wrote it for me. I don't see Joss as a great feminist writer, never have and this article really hit a lot of my concerns and dislikes about both Firefly and DOllhouse Joss Whedon and women

And from my friend, ES, Sounds like a very cool series

I decided I MUST WEED. I really did. It's to the point I might just be better off digging up the lillies and hostas and tilling it back to bare earth. Sigh. I hate that I have to keep trying to kill an elm but it's growing into my wall and years ago I begged landlord to remove it. He didn't so i keep hacking off branches.

Sadly 1 rose is totally dead. The second rose is mostly dead but hanging on. The butterfly bush went from 7 feet high last year to entirely dead. It's a bit depressing.

I was depressed most of the day. Just random floating weepies. God knows why. Maybe because I woke up more tired than I went to bed.

For Everyone Whose Sexual Awakening Was Caused By David Bowie In "Labyrinth God knows the Goblin King was hot though I HAD stricken Bowie's jiggling junk from my memory until [livejournal.com profile] evil_little_dog took advantage of me being ill while at a mutual friend's house to make me SEE it again.

I even washed some windows today but not much else got cleaned. I mostly sat here doing nothing but staring at the screen and trying to avoid my various flists (I don't really want to talk about the idiot who went on a stabbing/shooting spree because girls didn't give what he wanted).

Looked at houses. Found a couple more. Toyed with looking at job ads.

I'm having a massive blog tour for the novella. details here

declutter day 231 item tossed-Padded envelop why kept-Thought it had jewelry in it why tossed It did but it was full of mostly 5 year old mail. WHY was this on the bookcase??

I got my 900$ for the convention. They did pony up the cash which is already deposited and sent to the credit card I used. Also saw my chair and my provost around campus today. See me working wounded? Better get me extra credit.

The math prof who retired stopped in to see me today. She's moving closer to family in Missouri. I'm really gonna miss her. she's about my mom's age and I liked talking about India with her (where she's from) and learning to cook.

My primary care doctor's office called me at 8 AM to get the units I use of insulin and I explained it's a prefilled pen 100ML. please just ask for that. 2 hours later as I'm getting ready to head out the door, they call back and ask the same thing. I'm getting grimmer and grimmer about doctors' office help. I did get my insulin though.

Funny, two of the librarians in Jackson have friended me on goodreads. The YA librarian was so intrigued my review of Leviathan that she was very happy I brought it back today

Have a dream about my grandmother's house again. This time it was in the city with a wooden paneled doors. I had a courtyard. It was very old world Italy/Spain with an antique dealer across the room. Mom took me there and [livejournal.com profile] evil_little_dog & [livejournal.com profile] lyrangalia were there with other friends, having organized a surprise birthday party for me. I was ticked at ELD though since she got me three gifts and one alone was over 50$ and I had a 15$ limit this year because of money woes. There was a lot more to the dream but that's what I remember.

i can't remember if I mentioned this and I'm too lazy to go look but on the push cart I was planting and watering my heirloom tomato seeds in April, a seed spilled out. It's now a full grown plant with tomatos on it, growing out of a dusting of dirt spilling out of other plants. I think it's the lemon pearl. I brought it home and planted it which was a shock to it. I hope it's okay.

And I found some cool stuff on the net so I shall share. (actually two were sent to me by a friend)

I want this house nuff said.

Star Wars vs Harry Potter It's amusing

Yay Mural go look, you'll understand.
